At the Pegusus Roadhouse
There was an epic party with lots of beer, food and wenching. The Beer Baron invited the team to breakfast the next day.
The next morning, everyone except Thorin was feeling the effects of the previous night. There was a fine spread laid for breakfast, and the Beer Baron invited them to sit at his secluded private table. He was apprciative of their assistance. The caravan was a relic from before the Chaos Wars that would have beena tragedy to lose. Keg-E was attempting to repair the damaged car as they spoke.
The Beer Baron mentioned that he attack had seriously deminished his guards, and he asked the team to serve as guards back to his home, which was on the way to Nestoria, where Farkaya, the magical gadget specialist, was located. Thorin accepted the offer for them. Then Tevek went out to help Keg-E and together they quickly got it up and running.
Se’Lak asked if the Beer Baron knew of a vendor to whom to sell the captured weapons. He suggested that they would have better luck in Nestoria, but the Pegasus Roadhouse personnel might need some. Se’Lak spoke with the bartender, and sold 3 blaster pistols for 50 sp.
Prior to departure, they considered buying equipment, but the markeup was too high.
The Beer Baron was relieved that the caravan was still operational. It was a true technological marvel.
On the Road
Finn took a long lead ahead of the first vehicle. The landscape was fairly barren, so he had to stick to ditches. Eventually, they came upon a toll bridge over a large gap in the road and crossed uneventfully. Several hours later, they came upon another toll. Finn noted a sandbagged position next to a gate blocking the bridge. Behind the sandbags was a lone dwarf with a blaster longrifle.
As they approached, they noticed that the dwarf had a cybernetic eye, and a walkie talkie clipped to his vest. He sneered as the caravan stopped. There was evident animosity between the dwarf and the Beer Baron. He demanded 100 sp for the caravan to cross. The Beer Baron was taken aback. That was 10 times the charge on his previous crossing.
Finn sneaked around behind the dwarf’s shack, but was noticed at the last minute. Se’Lak observed the dwarf and determined that the dwarf was destitute and bent on sticking it to the Beer Baron. He also recalled that there was a network of toll takers who could call for backup. Se’Lak negotiated to trade two of the captured blaster pistols and 20 sp instead. The dwarf accepted. They crossed the bridge without incident and continued down the road for several more hours.
After a while, Tevek and Thorin heard a mechanical whining sounds and Tevek could feel heat coming from the last car in the caravan that they had repaired. Keg-E was summoned and it was quickly determined that the reactor was overheating. Going further would damage the reactor, and it could possibly explode if pushed to hard. They had to stop and see if they could make repairs. Tevek and Keg-E collaboratred and Keg-E surmised that if they let it cool down overnight it would probably be servicable in the morning.
They were about halfway to their destination, and the landscape was flat and fairly open with only scrub and a few trees. They established four watches, but they passed without incident. Finn, who was on the last watch, awakened the others so that he caravan could depart at first light.
The jury-rigging held, and the caravan functioned properly with only slightly more than normal heat. The travelled uneventfully and eventually spied Brewcore in the distance. However, Finn spied a windstorm coming that would reach them before they made it to the village. He alerted the others, and they circled the wagons, tied everything down, and took cover in the center.
The wind was fierce. Thorin was blown aside and noticed that some straps were about to give and spill the load of empty barrels. He braced them as the strap broke and held them in place until the storm passed. The Beer Baron was doubly appreciative as the barrels were also artifacts and aged such that some of his legendary brews depended on them.
At Brewcore
After the storm passed, they finished their journey to the Beer Baron’s estate. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained, except for the brewery itself, which was a patchwork building of various eras that clearly had stood since before the Chaos Wars.
The Beer Baron was truly grateful for the team accompanying him home, especially without asking for payment, so he gave each of them 5 gold and requested to be able to call on them again in the future if needed. Tevek gave the Beer Baron a de facto business card for Thorin and Company. The Beer Baron pledged to assist them if possible if he could.
They entered the manor and were greeted by the Beer Baron’s saurian steward, who also had a cybernetic eye and was not pleased to see the team. The Beer Baron instructed her to give them a tour and provide room for them. The steward was very haughty and put up with them reluctantly.
Along the way, they came across a room full of small cages. When asked, the steward told them they contained small lizards and large butterflies, whcih were pets. Then they arrived at a vast library, which the steward noted and brished them past.
Finn asked the steward why she did not liek them. She replied that the Beer Baron often brought home people who were only interested in taking his money and drinking his beer. They also passed a botanical garden before coming upon a collection of weapons and armor, some of which dated from the Chaos Wars. Tevek was tempted to enter, but the steward was not amused, and Se’Lak suggested to speak with the Beer Baron about servicign them.
They were taken to their rooms to clean up before dinner. Finn, Tevek and Se’Lak went to peruse the library. Thorin stayed in his room workign on plans for a collapsable mug that the sights of the manor has inspired Tevek to conceive. Tevek examined atlases and tomes referencing pre-War arcana. Se’Lak examined the historical references, noting titles that he had not previously studied.
At dinner, a fine spread was served to music and fine drinks. There were gambling tables as well. However, on the Beer Baron, the steward, and the team were dining. Finn expressed the team’s gratitude for the his generousity. The Beer Baron reciprocated and mentoned that Keg-E almost had the caravan fixed, which would have been lost were it not for the team.
During the meal, a teenage girl peeked in sheepishly. The Beer Baron summoned the girl and a younger boy into the room, who he introduced as his children. He said the boy wanted to follow in his footsteps,, but that the girl wanted to be an adventurer. She latched on to Thorin, who told her stories of hardship on the road. Seeing the Beer Baron’s appreciation of attempting to dissuade her, Se’Lak joined in.
After dinner, the Beer Baron showed them his first still and told them of his early days. Finn and Tevek made their exit and returned to the library, where they searched for maps to archeotech, manuals on repairing the carvan, and secret doors in the library. They found several references to the Chaos Wars, looking for information on groups that fought against the Prophet, especially those who used magical technology.
