Return to Camp
The freed captives collected the weapons from their fallen friends and then carried Kallor back to the heroes’ camp. They did not believe Craven was Zak Arras. The six gashants were still feathered where they left them. Kallor regained consciousness shortly thereafter. He was wounded but still alive. While enjoying water and rations, the Sardai told their story.
Two weeks ago, a Barudai (another Red Nomad tribe) trade caravan had come to the Sardai. Since the Barudai had been bringing fresh water from their oasis, they were welcomed with open arms. During a feast, slavers attacked. The Barudai showed their true colors and fought the Sardai from within as the slavers attacked from without. The slavers took all of the able-bodied men and women that they could. Some slavers were overheard talking about delivering them to a radium mine. The Sardai tribe was left with the wounded and a few hunters that weren’t in camp during the attack.
For better protection, the remains of the Sardai headed toward the broken lands. Unfortunately, they were unaware of a nearby Green Martian settlement. Two days ago, the Green Martians attacked. They ate the wounded and the small children immediately, saving the healthy specimens for ritual feasts.
The Sardai knew of only one radium mine in the region. It was run by a Baltan, Lord Arkon. The mine was located within the Ashghar mountain range. From there current position, it was only a three-day journey. The Sardai were more than willing to come with them to mind their camp while the heroes rescued their tribesmen. The heroes agreed to go to the mine.
