The pool was fed by an underground river with a swift current. Eventually it deposited the party in a different set of caves. This area was warm and humid.
Chesley washed up in an immense cavern that was filled with all manner of fungi in sickly colors from extraordinarily small to the size of towering trees. Lylou, Magda, and Gideon found themselves in a cave dominated by a pool of greenish slime. The goo coated the walls and dripped from the ceiling.
Finlay washed up in a narrow cavern across a natural bridge from where Lylou, Magda, and Gideon had emerged from the river. The wand indicated that they should proceed down the passage beyond Finlay, so we scouted it out.
Beyond a stone column was another cave dominated by a giant tree-like creature with thick, undulating limbs, smooth and dark green bark. It lashed out at Finlay with its a branch, but he avoided the blow and returned to the others.
Chesley rose and was accosted by a metal being with treads instead of legsthat shot an orange beam at him. Chesley avoided the shot and ran past the thing into the passage beyond.
Finlay, Lylou, Magda, and Gideon debated fighting the giant tree monster. They decided to avoid combat and sneak by. Finlay went first and was struck hard. Gideon followed and pushed him clear of its reach.
Chesley wandered into a cave dominated by small white flowers. Several people wearing rags tended the flowers with vacant expressions. As Chesley crossed the chamber to exit out the opposite end, they attacked him.
Lylou and Magda followed the others past the tree monster, but it struck Gideon before they all got by. Finlay continued down the passage and arrived at an intersection where he spotted Chesley in combat with the zombie-like beings. The others caught up and joined the fight as more of the shambling beings appeared from the opposite direction.
The fight was lengthy on account of the narrow confines of the passage, but the opponents were neither capable or strong. Lylou beset the beings with numerous Magic Missiles, while the others cleft through the foes easily.
Then Lylou miscast, and a giant slug appeared behind Magda. It pierced the fighter with a sharp appendage and she was first paralyzed, and then swallowed. Lylou killed it with another Magic Missile and it exploded, spraying acid everywhere.
Chesley took to healing Magda while the others engaged the remaining humans. The battle was going well until Lylou had a second miscast, which caused spores to fill the passage. Magda was disfigured by the cloud, while Chesley became stuck to the floor where he stood. And Gideon became indifferent towards the other party members.
A few more hits and a Magic Missile killed the last of the dazed humans, and then Chesley healed the party, though still stuck to the floor.
