Chesley abandoned his boots, which were stuck to floor by the fungal spores. The party continued toward the chamber by the zombies. Inside, they were surprised by a giant, conical creature with tentacles and leathery wings. It spoke to Finlay and Magda telepathically, but it’s responses to their questions were both annoyingly vague and cryptic. Eventually, they gave up on trying to get information from the thing and went in the direction that the wand indicated.
The long tunnel was sloped upward and ended in a room that had once been heavily trapped. The impaling spikes and saw blades had all been triggered and dismantled, and their parts were strewn about the room. Amidst the rubble and debris were skeletons of several headless, long-dead, elongated humanoid bodies. They bore threadbare garments and clubs and knives.
Amidst the debris, Finlay found a small, smooth, metallic cube. When he picked it up, it was warm to the touch. It was completely smooth and heavier than some that small should have been. After extended examination, Finlay put it in his pocket and they continued on.
The next chamber contained the flayed remains of six week old corpses. Each wore a plain wooden pendant suggesting some form of water-related deity. Their clothing was piled neatly in a corner. Among the peasant clothing, Finlay found some coins, shovels and a pair of swords. .
Adjacent to the pile of things, Finlay found room containing iron statues, each with a fancy weapons. Finlay was attracted to the expensive looking articles. Gideon attempted to stop him from disturbing the chamber, but failed to reach him. Magda knocked him out with a shovel and Finlay careening into on of the statues, which came to life.
The iron statue had changed into an armored but flayed man who expertly weilded a giant hammer. It attacked Magda. Lylou attempted to assist, but a miscast activated another statue bearing a spiked chain. It lashed out and wrapped around Chesley’s neck, whereby the warrior was compelled to attack Finlay, who was next to him.
Chesley stabbed Finlay with his spear, but another miscast by Lylou mended Finlay’s wounds. Lylou finally succeeded in striking with Magic Missiles. She killed the one with the hammer and wounded the one with the spiked chain. Magda then closed and killed the latter.
Released from the attackers compulsion, Chesley took possession of the spiked chain. Gideon took the giant hammer.
