The Scene

The party had been adopted by the House Marshell several years ago.  House Marshell was not one of the eight big adventuring houses in Questhaven, but they were famous for their achievements in the War of the Shifting Shore, so the house was prestigous, but not very wealthy.

Lord Marshell had no children, so he adopted promising youths from around Questhaven to perpetuate the line.  There were several groups of varying ages.  The party was the first group to be awarded a Legacy membership in the Questor Society for the House Marshell.

The Mission

Vethkar, lord of Plunging Stream Manor, needed to take his autistic daughter Zewthra to a mystic site known as Saviors Landing.  Recently he had been dreaming about the party and a harpy eagle.  He believed that the dream had a mystical component.

Vethkar contracted with the Questor society to have the party escort him and his daughter to the top of the butte at Saviors Landing.  There she would perform a ritual to be cured, and then bring them back to Plunging Stream Manor.  In exchange, the party would inherit he manor.

The Questor Society arranged a barge to take the party to the Plunging Stream Manor.  The journey to Plunging Stream Manor would take two weeks.

The Dream

On a crystal balcony overlooking a pool, several waterfalls, and a rainbow, with a golden sword floating in the air.  A harpy eagle hovered above the party.  The sword was not recognizable, but Cham and thought it might be a Luck Blade.  Ezzerkash resisted the compulsion to go get it.

Then a door opened and a strange, multi-colored woman looking like a macabre doll emerged from a door.  She was a Verrick, a psionic race that was cursed by its deity, when overthrew and banished it.  She said “help me,”and then the sword appeared in her hand and she attacked.  The harpy eagle dove in front of Brynjar and took the blow.  Then it disappeared.  The Verrick shed a tear when she hit it.

Ezzerkash moved to attack and before biting her.  Cham attempted to grab sword, but missed.  The Verrick stabbed her.  Cham cried “why are you doing this?”  Then she stabbed Brynjar and screamed in terror.  Brynjar attempted to disarm her, but missed.  Bazyl advanced toward her, slid by, and grabbed her arm, but she broke free.  Oobleck’s companion, Slimy, oozed over and attemtped to grab her, but she evaded.

Ezzerkash clawed and bit her.  The Verrick looked seriously injured.  Cham grabbed her.  The Verrick attacked and missed.  Brynjar attempted to grapple again, but missed.  Bazyl tried to trip her with his sickle.  Slimy attempted to slam, but missed.

Ezzerkash clawed her.  Cham missed.  The Verrick attacked Brynjar and staggered him.  Brynjar attempted to grapple again.  The Verrick critically injured Brynjar and he disappeared.  Bazyl tried to trip again.  Slimy attempted to slam again.

Ezzerkash bit and clawed the Verrick.  Cham attempted to disarm her and missed.  The Verrick attacked Ezzerkash and wounded him.  Bazyl cured Ezzerkash.  Slimy grabbed the Verrick and everyone vanished.

Awakened

Everyone except Brynjar awoke in an opulent room that was not their home.  Oobleck realized that they were in the Drifting Glade.  Cham and Ezzerkash saw a young boy in red livery depart when he saw that they were awake.

Brynjar was still unconscious, but Oobleck hypothesized that dying in the dream traumatized him.  Bazyl cast a cure on Brynjar.

A stooped old Verrick with a long white braid returned with the boy.  There was a wrongness about him that Oobleck recognized it as the curse.  He was friendly.  The boy returned with water and cheese, the gift of welcoming. The Verrick said he found them on his doorstep two weeks ago and they had been asleep since then.

The party started to eat.  The daughter appeared with a rat for Ezzerkash.  She had the sword sheathed on her back.  The old man explained that she went quite mad if he took the sword away from her.  Ezzerkash ate the rat.  They discussed the dream and the old man opened the outer door to reveal the scene of the dream.

The old man produced a crystal shard with a red wine pattern in it: a  Delver’s Rod.  He explained that the symbol was of the former Verrick god.  The device granted the bearer knowledge insights several times per day.  It was a crime to create new Delver’s Rods, but they could use it on their journey, and on the completion of the mission, it would be theirs.  Bazyl took possession of it.

Ezzerkash sought out more vermin.  They would depart in the morning. The girl took him to another room where she had carved stones of depicting:

  • each of the party members,
  • her father,
  • a tall and slender woman of unearthly beauty, dark eyes, and ankle-length black hair,
  • a wretch garbed in a giant harpy eagle’s remains,
  • three hags: white, black, and red,
  • a knight in stark white armor armor,
  • a rainbow colored flame,
  • a dead minotaur,
  • a shooting star,
  • a Holy symbol of Our Lady of the Rainbow Scales,
  • a giant sitting upon a cloud throne, and
  • a large spike-armored figure, with an eyeless helm, and a dire axe.

She also had some Rune stones: Oath, Ritual, Choice, Complex, Evolution, Master, Truename.

Cham asked if he girl had ever brought anyone else into her dreams.  The old man said that she had not since her accident.  He had been away.  She was attacked by a Taurian, who was found dead with her standing over it. She had been as she was ever since.  They had fled their homeland that day.
