Enter the Harpy

“Are you  through yet???”  The harpy had watched the battle and was amused.  She was perched on the air conditioner.    She said that Huggy Bear owed him for a  bet on Super Bowl 3 in 1966.  It was a $10 bet,  compounded to $17 million and change.  Ely offered to buy the debt from her.   She said everyone needed a pimping suit.  Zoe asked to see one.

As they were talking, Kyna approached, but was obvious.  While the harpy was distracted, Walter pounced and leapt right through her.  Kyra figured out that she was using a communication spell and was somewhere else on the roof.   Walter sought her out.

Ely attempted to persuade the harpy to wager something else.  The harpy offered to arm wrestle, but Zoe knew that she was strong.  Kyna tried to find her, but could not see the harpy.  Walter sniffed her out  and located the harpy in the air conditioner beneath the illusion.  He walked around behind it.  Zoe challenged the harpy to arm wrestle, but it refused because the squirrel had her marked.

Walter found a door to the elevator shaft in the back of the unit…

Ely conferred with Kyna about challenging the harpy to a sleeping contest.  Kyna knew that harpies slept for 4-6 months at a time, they hybernate…

Walter was tired of waiting, so he opened the door and attacked.  Ely saw him disappear into the housing. Kyna had her back to it.  Walter pounced, but missed.  The harpy clawed him.   The projection vanished.  Ely ran to the entrance and saw the harpy and Walter squaring off.  

Kyna followed.  The harpy swooped but missed.  Walter slashed with his claws, but the harpy evaded.  Ely interposed between them to get the harpy to attack him instead.  

Kyna cast a mind clouding spell on the harpy.  It screamed and wavered in the air.  She slashed at Walter and hit him solidly.  Ely drew the cast iron skillet from his backpack.

Kyna cast a wall of force to push the harpy into the iron elevator frame.  It slammed into the wall and bones broke.  Kyna started bleeding from her nose and ears, but pinned the harpy.  The harpy struggled to break free ineffectually, but Walter pounced and slashed her.  Ely charged at the harpy with the skillet before him.  He avoided the debris, but failed to hit her with it.  The harpy seemd to go limp.

Kyna assessed that the harpy was unconscious.  She releasd the spell.  Walter went outside to get some air.  Ely examined the harpy and discovered that she had a broken wing.

Kyna searched the room,  but did not find anything.  Outside, Walter changed back to human form.  Ely splinted the harpy’s wing.  

When she revvied, the harpy said that they had bested her in fair combat.  The  elevator rose to them, and there was a case on the top containing the pimping suit.  She said that they had earned a boon and assumed that that was what they wanted.  Ely collected the suit.

The harpy mentioned that she still had an issue with Huggy Bear.  Ely offered his services.  The harpy gave him her card.  Ely mentioned that Huggy Bear now owed him a debt.  The harpy said that Huggy Bear had a good reputation, but declined to enter an arrangement with them.  They departed on good terms.

Payment Terms

Ely suggested that, since Huggy Bear did not settle his debts promptly, they should know what they wanted from him before returning the suit.

  • Kyna wanted to use her favor to get information about the wizard at the theater and his daughter.
  • Ely considered asking for a magical device to draw attackers to him instead of the others, with the ability to be turned on and off, that blends in.
  • Walter wanted to know what was happening to Brandon, without harming him, and what to do about it.

Huggy Bear offered to research the wizard and his daughter, to observe Brandon for 24 hours and report what he observes, and to give Ely d’Artagnon’s hat, which he had dyed orange.

They accepted his offers and went home to get some sleep.
