In the Narlmarches
Pyotr the Hunter and his tiger Ilya, Reppa the druid and her wolf Wulfgar, Ambiorix the archaeologist, Stormbolt the taninim trueblood sorceror, and Froing the cleric embarked from Olaf’s Trading Post to assault the bandit camp on the Thorn River.
After traveling across the Kamelands, they came upon the Narlmarches as the sun was setting. They set up camp and then Stormbolt, Ilya, and Wulfgar departed in search of game. Wulfgar located some wild boar, who pursued him. In the coming fight, the boars held their own against the party, who only succeeded in killing one. However, the 200 pound beast would be a certain feast for everyone.
While Reppa butchered and cooked the boar, Ambiorix told the tale of the battle with musical accompaniment. After Pyotr, Ilya, and Wulfgar took what they wanted from the carcass, Stormbolt consumed the rest. Reppa and Wulfgar tool the first watch. Ambiorix took the second watch. Ilya and Pyotr took the third watch. Froing was on the fourth watch.
Nocturnal Surveillance
On their watch, Reppa and Wulfgar noticed a humanoid watching the camp from a distance. She attempted to awaken Froing and then Pyotr, but neither woke up. Reppa determined that the being was trying to hide, but poorly. She tried again and awakened Pyotr.
Pyotr circled around through the woods to sneak up on the being from behind. In the mean time, Reppa awakened Stormbolt and Ambiorix. Pyotr approached the man. He was human, wearing leathers and furs. The man attempted to hide without success.
Ambiorix followed Pyotr’s path while Reppa went around the other way. Froing walked straight up to him. Stormbolt and Ilya remained in camp. The man had a bow and long knife. Froing asked where the man’s companion was. The man said he worked alone and was a hunter. Froing assessed that he was in fact a hunter and invited him into the camp.
Pyotr asked if the man had seen any bandits. Haroldski was the man’s name. He said that the bandits were found deeper in the forest, but he gave them trouble if they bothered him. Harald asked what the party was doing there. Pyotr replied that they were hunting bandits. Harald was pleased. Reppa asked about the Stag Lord. Harald said that he heard of him, but all he knew was that the Stag Lord was the bandit leader.
Pyotr asked Harald about Moon Radishes. He said that the radishes were not too far to the south of their position, but to beware of the mites, which they clarified as kobolds. Ambiorix asked Harald about the geography of the area. Harald did not tell them anything they did not already know. He mentioned that he was en route to Oleg’s Trading Post. Froing invited Harald to camp with the party if he encountered them in the future. The rest of the night passed uneventfully.
Skirmish for Radishes
The next day, the continued south, through the hills, skirting the forest, heading toward the river and perhaps the Moon Radishes. Several hours later, both Pyotr and Reppa found some Moon Radishes. They searched the area and found more. They followed the trail further until is petered out. They were about to return to their hills to break for lunch, when Piotr discovered the trail again.
They followed the trail and found the radish patch in a clearing, but Stormbolt noted four kobolds that appeared to be sleeping among them. He informed the others, and then stalked around to the other side of the patch. While Ambiorix and Froing took hold of the horses’ reins, the others observed the kobolds. One was sleeping, the other three appeared to be in distress. There were also three baskets of radishes already picked there. Ambiorix and Froing secured the horses.
Reppa, Wulfgar, Pyotr and Ilya approached the edge of the clearing to pick radishes. The kobolds noticed them as soon as they entered the clearing and started shouting in Draconic. Stormbolt understood them attempting to shoo away the others.
Stormbolt roared. The kobolds were surprised, but not intimidated. Stormbolt siad that if the gave the party their baskets, they would leave the kobolds alone. Pyotr started cutting radishes. Froing and Ambiorix approached. The kobolds slung a stone a Pyotr and missed. Reppa started cutting as well.
Stormbolt attempted to negotiate the purchase of their baskets, but the kobolds were not amenable. Pyotr and Reppa continued cutting. Froing looked around for more kobolds, but did not see any. Ambiorix prepared his crossbow. Three of the kobolds charged Pyotr and Reppa and attempted to stab them. Wulfgar bit one. Reppa defended herself.
Stormbolt cast a Jolt at one attacking Reppa to distract it. Ilya mauled and killed another. Froing attacked but missed the last one. Ambiorix shot his crossbow and missed. The last kobold attacked Reppa. She drew her scythe. The kobolds attacked. She struck back, but missed. Wulfgar missed his bite.
Stormbolt threw his electrical breath at the two on Reppa and killed one. Ilya killed the other. Reppa gathered up some radishes of her own (not the ones in the baskets). Froing stabilized their wounds, and then the party moved on.
