Starting Anew

Having thwarted the sorcerer’s attempt to transform himself into an elf, the group returned to their esoteric pursuits.  Kyna and Walter received invitations to “The Spring Dance.”  Ely received a package from his employer, who later called and inquired as to whether he was going to the dance.    She apparently had sent the invitations to Kyna and Walter, and there was one in the box that he was reluctant to open.

Eventually he did open the box, after a few shots of whiskey, and found a man purse made of black dragon scale leather.  He did not consider how she came upon it as it was not her skin.  There was also an invitation and a silver ring in the box.  But there were no instructions in the box.  The ring would not go into the murse, so he put it in his pocket.

Having filled out their RSVPs, Kyna and Walter each decide to hand deliver them to the indicated address.  It was the corner building on the block, with a turret, four lightning rods, and a wrought-iron fence.  Kyna could see with her Sight tht it was actually an empty lot.  She determined that it was a fey quality glamour.

Walter did not see the glamour, so he opened the gate, walked up to the front door, and knocked.  The mail slot opened, and he put his invitation in it.  Kyna saw a board appear where he knocked, and when he put the letter in the slot, it vanished.  She did the same and then told Wlater that it was a glamour, and also a gate to the Nevernever.

Mistaken Identity?

Driving to Ely’s house, Walter was pulled over.  The officers were very careful and commanded them to the ground and handcuffed them.  Then they called for backup.  Kyna started gathering power.  When the paddy wagon arrived, they were loaded into it.  Kyna hexed the squad car out of spite.

They were taken to the police station, where Walter was put in a cell and Kyna was interrogated.  She was denied a phone call or a lawyer, and accused of being a bank robber and a terrorist.  She fit the description, was driving the right kind of car, and had a black accomplice.  When she was left alone, she attempted to melt her handcuffs.

Then they took Walter to interrogation.  He was compliant and determined that the officers were being supernaturally influenced by something.  Kyna was taken to a solitary cell.  She used her Sight to see that the officers had Marks of Power and were being compelled.  Walter was taken to a cell across from Kyna.  It was not proper for them to be in the came cell block.

Ely tried to call Kyna and Walter.  Kyna’s phone did not answer.  Walter’s phone was answered by a “property clerk.”  He was ordered to stay where he was and someone would come to take him downtown.  He was also told to bring any black dragon leather things with him.  Ely took a circuitous route to the diner.  After ordering his pancakes, he saw a police car go by with its lights on.

Then his phone rang as Kyna used her phone call to call him.  She told him that the police were compelled by Marks of Power and arrested them for committing a bank robbery.  Ely said he would consult his contacts and see what he could do.  On the way to and fro the telephone, she hexed the cameras, but noted that they were not activated anyway.

Ely contacted his activist lawyer to bail them out.  The attorney called back an hour later and told him that no one was at the precinct by the given names.  They were not required to be booked for twenty-four hours.  Twenty minutes later, the attorney called back and told him that a cop who knew where they were would release them for $5000.  Ely said he would call back.

In the mean time, Kyna succeeded in shattering her handcuffs, which had a bug inside.  She concentrated on zapping Ely’s cuffs, the chain between the bracelets and the concealed bug broke.

Ely went to acquire the money.  He wrote a check for the $5000 and Zoe’s grandma gave him 5 $1000 bills.  Ely said he would pay them when his friends were brought to the diner.  The officer said he would be paid first, and then they woudl be released in from of the 17th precinct.  He determined that the officer was not scamming him.  He tried to get someone to act as an intermediary, but could not get anyone.

Ely observed his car and determined that it was not being watched.  He drove to the precinct and parked a few blocks away. The attorney was there and dialed some numbers.  Walter and Kyna were released as bailed out.  They went briskly to Ely’s car and drove away obeying all traffic signals.  When they returned to the diner, it was closed and the door was locked with a sign saying it would reopen at noon.  Ely and Walter heard Zoe arguing with another woman.
