Wargs in the Night
K’rek, Lucee and Harli were on watch, and Stormbolt was awake, when a pack of wargs attacked the camp. Stormbolt fired his chain-lightning breath and hit seven of them. Lucee activated Divine Bond and readied for the oncoming attack. Froing was awakened by the attack. He grabbed his equipment and retreated beyond the campfire. K’rek moved into position for a charge. Harli awakened Dreck, Froing’s retainer. Aeldred caste Haste on the party, except K’rek who was too far away. Dreck joined his master on the other side of the fire. The wargs closed and three attacked Stormbolt to no effect.
Stormbolt set into his opponents and slew two of the three. Lucee killed her opponent. Froing stepped back and cast Protection from Evil on Aeldred. K’rek charged one of the wargs. Two others attacked B’kun as they passed and one hit him before K’rek skewered his target. Harli moved into a flanking position but was bit by a warg on the way. Aeldred and summoned three giant spiders who webbed one of the wargs. Dreck hit a warg and retreated. The wargs attacked ineffectually and two departed.
Stormbolt killed his third opponent. Lucee flanked another warg and hit it. Froing healed Harli and B’kun. Harli stepped aside and K’rek charged another warg and killed it. The spiders all attacked the last warg and killed it.
The rest of the night passed without incident.
Fey Bane
In the morning the party returned to the ruined keep to assault the skull-strewn tower. Stormbolt flew over the area to reconnoiter. As K’rek and B’kun went through the open archway, a portcullis fell, separating them from the rest of the party. The others went around to the collapsed section of wall and climbed over. They regrouped outside the skull tower.
Harli checked the door for traps and did not find any, but the door was barred from the inside. B’kun gored the door and broke it down. He was immediately attacked by something inside. Then the vines entangled the boar and Harli. K’rek slashed at the vines. B’kun tried to break free without success. Aeldred used Elemental Sample to set fire to Harli’s vine. Froing sliced at B’kun’s vine. Stormbolt bit at B’kun’s vines. Lucee cast Liberating Command on B’kun, but he could not break free. Harli wriggled out of the entanglement and stepped back. Dreck attacked the boar’s vines without success.
B’kun was hit by something inside and also constricted by the vine. Froing was entangled. K’rek attacked B’kun’s captor and it dropped B’kun, who was attacked by the thing inside. The plants attacking the others became unanimated. Aeldred cast Haste. Froing moved into position and healed B’kun. Stormbolt burst through the doorway and attacked in inhabitant with a Breath-Charged Bite. Lucee advanced and hit the creature with the Fey Bane sword.
The creature struck Harli and poisoned her. The inhabitant leapt up into the darkness of the higher tower. K’rek had B’kun guard the door. K’rek entered and looked for the opponent. Aeldred summoned a Lantern Archon but could not locate the enemy. Froing entered the tower and noticed that the steps up were destroyed. Stormbolt flew up and spied the foe squeezing through a gap in the wall. He hit it with his breath weapon. Froing spied something leaping from the skull tower to the central one.
After Froing healed the party, they searched the tower and found a chest. Harli found no traps, and eventually unlocked it. The Lantern Archon flew around the top of the tower but did not find anything. Inside the chest, they found a fine velvet cloak, a gold necklace, a silver ring set with an emerald, a bejeweled masterwork short sword, and a moonstone, as well as some silver and gold coins.
