Episode One: Behind Enemy Lines

0900 – Mission Briefing
27 May 1940
0900 – Landed on the beach at Bray Dunes. Thanks to Chance’s motivating speech, commandeered 3rd Squad of the 3rd Grenadier Guards to provide escort to the front.
1000 – Succeeded in jury rigging a jeep and a truck for transportation from the wrecked equipment abandoned at the beachhead.
1200 – Held up on the road by the refugee column and destroyed vehicles in the elevated roadway in the midst of the flooded fields. The column was strafed and bombed by Stukas. The refugees were scattered and some killed, and the soldiers moved vehicles out of the way.
1600 – Arrived at the Yser River south of Furnes and west of Noordschote. The bridge was impassable for the vehicles. Released the soldiers and crossed the river using the rubble from the bridge as stepping stones. Gus fell in. The terrain gained some elevation and became more forested.
