At the Garage
Raymond, Norris and Francis were at the abandoned garage with the butcher van and the shrapnel. Norris was studying the Demon’s Bane from Châteaugiron in the office. Raymond instructed Francis to make contact with N for further instructions. In the mean time, Francis had found him some laborer’s coveralls and Raymond worked on improving his disguise. He planned to steal some papers from a homeless person.
At the Eglaise Saint-Germaine
Patrice, Didier and Jean spent the night in the Eglaise Saint-Germaine. They stayed for Sunday services. The officer who distributed the flyers returned just before the crowd arrived. Some German soldiers and officers also attended the service. The woman from the train entered the church mid way through the service. Didier and Patrice noticed her arrival, but she did not seem to notice them.
The officer came to the podium just before the end of the service and informed the parishioners that a Raymond Cormier and a Norris Fournier were wanted by the German authorities for questioning in relation to a man they had in custody. He mentioned that there was a 500 franc reward for each and reference a wanted poster and indicate one posted on the board at the rear of the church. He also said that the men in question should not be approached, and if seen, they should contact the nearest gendarme or German soldier.
After the service, as the parishioners were leaving, the woman from the train loitered by the wanted poster. Didier surmised that she was trying to get his attention. Didier joined her there while Patrice and Jean watched from a distance. The woman greeted him with feigned familiarity. Didier replied in kind. The woman introduced herself at Corinne, took his arm and led him to a secluded corner and demanded to know where the money was. Didier was uncooperative. The woman recognized Patrice and then Jean watching her. Finally she wrote down an address and told them to bring the money there at 5:00. She also mentioned that they were being watched. Then she left abruptly. The team decided to the marketplace for lunch and scope it out in advance of their meeting that night.
At the Marketplace
Arriving at the marketplace, they split up. Didier noticed the Corinne following them. She approached him and indignantly stated that they needed help and that she could provide it in exchange for the forged money. Jean secretly watched their exchange from a neighboring stall. Didier suggested that Corinne speak to Patrice. Patrice led her to a secluded spot, but noticed that a man was following her. Jean also noticed the man and distracted him, enabling Patrice to move the meeting out of his view.
Patrice threatened to expose the woman. She suggested that her group was working against the interests of the Germans. Patrice said that they could return the money, but that they had to make a meeting first. Corinne suggested that if they were looking to meet the men in the poster, they should send an intermediary. Patrice agreed to meet with her group at 3:00 at her location, but they needed to collect her teammates and the money from where it was hidden first. Corinne told her the address, and Patrice memorized it. Then Corinne casually left, collecting the man Jean had distracted on the way. Patrice returned to the marketplace, watched the others leave, and then looked around for their third colleague, but did not notice anyone.
Patrice, Jean and Didier found an empty shop in which to confer. They got some wine and relaxed, observing the marketplace. They discussed Patrice’s meeting, and debated her allegiances. Patrice told the others that the woman had access to a radio, and that she had scheduled a meeting for 3:00. It was decided that Didier would remain at the marketplace in case their contact arrived earlier. Jean and Patrice went to scope out the meeting’s place.
At the Meeting Place
The neighborhood where the meet was to take place had been bombed out. The structures were mostly the stone shells of houses. Jean looked about for a vantage point, but find one as most of the roofs were collapsed and the interiors unstable. They sneaked around looking for the indicated address. At one point, Patrice hear a voice and went to investigate, she saw a man who stopped, but did not see her. When he turned to walk away, Patrice through a stone to get Jean’s attention, but it also attracted the attention of another man down a side street, who approached her with a shotgun.
Jean attempted to sneak up, but failed, and the man called for help. Patrice pulled a 1000 franc note from her cleavage and asked if the man had lost it. The man was distracted. The first man reappeared from where he had disappeared holding a pistol and moved around a building to approach Patrice from behind. He did not notice Jean, but Jean noticed him and snuck into a building where he could see Patrice and the other man.
Patrice suggested that the man’s boss might know something about the 1000 franc note that she had found. The man agreed and led Patrice further down the street. Jean attempted to parallel their course from within a building, but knocked over some rubble and attracted the man with the pistol’s attention. He entered the building, but did not notice Jean among the rubble.
Patrice was taken to the best building in the neighborhood, in which was Corinne, two other men, a printing press, and printing supplies. Patrice and Corinne exchanged words, and the man in charge sent his thugs to bring Jean back. Jean, in the mean time, had gotten the drop on the man with the pistol, but came quietly, when the man with the shotgun told him that the boss was expecting him.
