Kobold Refugees

The river was 30 yards across and smelled of sulphur. Reppa realized that the hot springs were up river. They went in that direction until nightfall and made camp.

On the third watch, Stormbolt was surprised by a splash of water from the river. He could not find the source. Nothing else happened in the night.

In the morning, the temperature had dropped significantly. Everyone except Ambiorix managed to keep warm, but they were overcome by a blizzard and covered by a foot of snow when they rose. The party built a large shelter to weather the storm in.

On the third watch, Stormbolt spotted something moving under the snow. After a whlle a pair of kobolds emerged, trying to keep warm. Stormbolt called out to them and offered shelter. Ambiorix with Endure Elements carved a path in the snow to them.

The kobolds were not from the clan the party had dealt with previously, and they were taken aback by the presence of a dragon. He attempted to encourage them unsuccessfully, but Ambiorix and Reppa with Comprehend Languages convinced them to accept the shelter.

The kobolds were from “the western edge of the forest” and were separated from the rest of their tribe by the storm. They accepted the party’s hospitality. They said that their home area was a couple of days upriver to the north. They were after radishes.

By sunset, the storm slowed to a light flurry, but three and a half feet of snow had already fallen. They waited until morning to continue. 

The Worg

The party continued upriver toward the hot springs. Along the way, Jeju sensed a “wolf that was wrong” at medium range. Ambiorix saw it in the distance and determined that it was a worg. It also saw them.

Froing tied off the horses. Olga and the wolves awaited instructions. Stormbolt charged and bit the worg. Reppa and the wolves attacked. Ambiorix protected the horses. Piotr and Ilya attacked.

Froing tended to the horses. The worg bit Reppa and tripped her. Stormbolt missed. The wolves bit. Reppa withdrew. Ambiorix shot his crossbow but missed. Ilya clawed and raked the worg. Piotr moved in but missed.

Froing tended the horses. The worg attacked the tiger. Stormbolt bit and killed it. The kobolds ran off during the fight, but Ambiorix spotted them running away.

They continued until midday and reached the springs themselves as night fell.
