The Plots at Hand
- The play
- The magic shop
- The dead waitress
- The troubled teenager
The team debated what to do.
At the Diner
Walter showed the group the symbol to the group. Kyna and Zoe recognized the symbol as one for a local werewolf pack. Kyna examined the paper and noted a moderate strength veil on it. She pierced it to reveal a business card for Dr. Elmore Leonard, 14th and H Street, NW, head of neurosurgery. The address was George Washington Hospital. They drove to the address.
At the Medical Office
As they approached the office, Walter and Zoe were overcome by a wave of fear. Kyna noticed something perched on the roof. Zoe and Walter followed Ely’s example and looked up. They all agreed that it was a blurry thing. Zoe was afraid to leave the car, but Kyra persuaded her to come with them. They went into the well lit building and took the elevator to the top floor. Walter noted Dr. Leonard’s suite number as they passed. It was on the top floor as well. Ely and Kyna looked for roof access. Unable to do so, they joined Wlater and Zoe outside the office.
Kyna knocked on the door but there was no answer. Ely went insubstantial and went through the wall to the right of the door. Kyna, Zoe and Walter heard a sizzling sound as Ely felt a tickling sensation and was scorched by something. The room was dark, so Ely had not seen anything. Kyna detected fey magic on Ely. A janitor walked by and told themm that he was at lunch. Kyna used her Sight and discuvered that the man was degenerate but otherwise mundane.
Zoe tried to persuade the janitor to grant them access to the roof, but failed. Kyna tried as well with equal success. The janitor refused again and told them to leave if they didn’t have business in the building. They went down to the floor below, where Ely found the janitor closet. Then he went to the top of the stairs and walked through the wall into the janitor closet on that floor and through the neighboring offices. The electrical devices reacted to his presence by flickering on and off. He ended up in a dark room.
Ely rematerialized and knocked over a mop. He found the light switch and found himself in the janitor closet. Menawhile, Zoe and Kyna tried to think of ways to get access to the roof. Ely peed in the bucket just to annoy the janitor, and then made his way back, ending up in the hallway and continued to the stairs. Zoe and Walter noticed the sign marking the stairway to the roof. Zoe was afraid to go up to the roof. The door at the top was locked.
Ely went through and looked around. There was a shadowy thing in the corner. It turned to face him with two glowing red eyes. Ely opened the door and the others entered. The thing greeted them. Walter confirmed that it went by Dr. Leonard. It told them that Walter would be implicated unless they found the true culprit. He told them that the actualy killer was a rogue Black Pelt, one of the more powerful werewolf varieties. He provided an evidence bag containing black hairs pulled out by the roots. He said Joann was killed to inconvenience him.
In spite of his experience with the supernatural, Walter could not figure out what the blurry being was. He told them to send a report to his “message drop” indicating the email address. Then he teleported away. They drove back to Kyna’s apartment.
At Kyna’s Apartment
Kyna prepared a locator spell. Before using up the sample, Walter transformed and captured the scent. While Kyna worked, the others ordered generic Asian food. Kyna’s spell put the being in Rock Creek Park. Kyna gathered up components for a tracking spell and they departed, eating in Ely’s car.
In Rock Creek Park
They parked in a park lot and debated what to do when they found it. They discussed the various types of werewolves. There were the classic werewolves. There were Hexenwolves, who were magical. And there were transformed werewolves created by someone else’s magic. They rationalized that all they needed was someone to accuse to take to the Wardens, who would extract the truth and cover things up.
At that point, they questioned the veracity of what the shadow being gave them. They needed to find the Black Pelt and determine if it was guilty or could point them to someone who was. Kyna reasoned that the shadow being was probably on the dark side of magic and avoiding the Wardens, so he was likely telling the truth. The death of Joann was done in such a way as to gather power, which suggested a Hexenwolf. Kyna reasoned that the Wardens could locate items of power, and Hexenwolves were dependent on an item of power. Ely surmised that the Wardens could solve the crime if they set it up for them.
They set out in pursuit of the creature…
