The Sleep Study

Zoe punched the entity, which was distracted by Ely’s hat. The entity raised an arm to block, and it broke. Kyna grabbed the entity and released her cold energy. It shimmered for a moment, and then it’s chest became solid. The entity slashed Kyna again. Walter realized that the blue was some kind of shield. Ely moved in and caught its attention. Brandon walked around the bed, slapped the entity in the butt, went into the bathroom, and closed the door. The solid chest turned blue.

Zoe tried to punch it, but missed. Kyna blasted with cold again. The entity screamed “I’ll be back” and blew apart in a fireball. The room caught on fire. Walter grabbed Brandon and dragged him out of the bedroom. Zoe followed. Kyna started putting out the fire. Ely dragged Kyna out. Then the sprinklers went off.

Walter took Brandon home.  He explained to his parents that the testing revealed a minor chemical imbalance in his brain. Walter prescribed a placebo and instructed them to bring Brandon to him for weekly follow up sessions to monitor his chemistry, but that his episodes should be in remission now.

Kyna went home to rest.  She noticed someone watching her from across the street.  He was a six foot Nordic man.  She tried to use her Sight on him, but the being was warded against Sight.  She approached and the man walked away.  She followed into an alley, but he man was gone.  She tried her Sight again and noticed a rift closing.  She went home and went to sleep.  Ely also went home for his monthly nap.

At the Diner

When they rose, the cleaned up and met at the diner for brunch.  Zoe slept in.  Kyna mentioned that she was being watched by a magic using or enhanced operator.  Suddenly they noticed a red, foil wrapped package with a green bow on the table.  Ely opened it.  There was a white cardboard bod under the paper.  Inside the box was a large marble with swirly colors inside. He held it up for the others to see.  Walter was mesmerized by it.  Ely put it way.  The card in the box said “Congratulations.”  Ely recognized the writing as that of his employer.

Kyna looked at the marble with her Sight and recognized a minor enchantment.  It was a mesmerizing ball.

Kyna asked the others to tail her to see if she was being followed.  Walter noticed a large, muscular blond man following Kyna and taking notes.  Walter told Ely to distract him.  Ely approached him and asked if had time to talk about his Lord and Savior.  The man ran off in a panic.  Ely noticed that he had a pistol in a shoulder holster.  Walter followed discretely.  The man was clearly avoiding Ely.  Walter followed him to a run down two story office building where Walter pushed the button for the second floor office buzzer.

Walter noted the address and returned to Ely, who was on the phone with Kyna.  She told him that the man was now outside her house.  They walked back to Kyna’s house, but did not see him.  Ely called Kyna back, but she did not see the man anymore.  She told Ely where she last saw him, and Ely investigated there.

Walter went to a nearby alley and transformed.  There he laid in wait for Kyna and Ely to herd the man to him.  Kyna veiled herself to look like Ely and sneaked out the back door.  She found Ely at the mouth of the alley.  He saw himself but did not realized who it was.  They saw Walter in cat form in the alley, and the man across the alley staring at him.  The Ely’s approached him.

The man conceded saying he was not being paid enough.  He said that Kyna’s husband hired him to follow her because she was having an affair.  Kyna intimidated him until he provided the name Richard.  Kyra slammed him with a force and he fell unconscious.  She put wizard cuffs on him and slapped him around to wake him up, but he did not revive.  Walter declared that he was in a coma.

Kyna searched his pockets.  All she found was $200 in cash.  While Walter and Ely debated what comatose meant, Kyna took hair and blood samples and hypothesized that he was a minor talent.  Ely searched his clothes.  While doing so, Walter noticed that the man had an arm tattoo.  Kyna identified that it was imbued with a spell.  Ely checked his contacts to find a veterinarian who needed money, but did not find one.  

Kyna suggested the house of the woman who was killed by the werewolf.  Ely went to get his car while Walter checked the man’s condition.  He was deeply unconscious and probably concussed.  They put him in the car and drove to Huntington.  The house was unoccupied and no neighbors around.  They carried him into the house.  About fifteen minutes later , the man woke up.

Kyna interrogated him again.  She noticed that he was not rattled about being thrown into a wall by force.  HE said that he was paid two days fees and the client would come back to collect his report the next day.  The client was six foot five, 240 pounds, and looked like a linebacker.  Walter transformed in order to intimidate him, but he was not impressed.  Kyna asked if the client was a practitioner.  He said said he did not think so, but didn’t check.  He thought he was a personal trainer.

The man said that he had only started following her at the diner.  He thought it was a mundane surveillance job.  Ely asked if he had realized that Kyna was not married.  The man did not believe her.  Ely engaged him in conversation while Kyna studied his tattoo.  Kyna overwhelmed the tattoo spell with magical force.  He passed out.  They ordered pizza to the house next door.
