October 10, 1631
Gideon Dubhghall, Man at Arms, Chesley Walt the Cleric, Father Wyn Modeste, Adamina Lylou the Mage, and Finlay Lorin, Adventurer, and the woman Magda they had come upon on the road accepted the writ of the Prince-Bishop to kill the Seven witches ruling Karlstadt in hopes of easing the wrath of the coming Swedish invasion.
The Skinned Man
The party acquired food, horses, weapons, and powder before setting out that morning. A few hours later, they spotted a ruined farm, still smoldering. They investigated and discovered partially consumed pigs.
Gideon searched the perimeter and discovered the bodies of several dead bandits. Among them he found several spent pistols. Wyn was attacked by a skinned but living man. The attacker was quickly dispatched.
Zellingen
When they arrived in Zellingen, the party, on horseback, was swarmed by a band looters demanding their possessions. They party killed four of them before the rest ran away.
From the vantage of Zellingen, Adamina spotted a mound in the distance across the swamp crowned by eight standing stones. She was drawn to the inherent magical potential of the site.
To the Mound
Entering the swamp, the party headed toward Mound. They stumbled upon a couple hiding in the moor. The couple offered their worldly possessions to be left alone.
Adamina assuaged their fears and offered the pair, who were Jews, an escort to their destination, Karlstadt, by way of the Mound.
Avram and Sarah watched the horses while the others entered the Mound with a lit lantern. Within the entrance was a stairway downward. At the bottom of the steps, the chamber was covered in oil.
When Adamina entered the chamber with the lit lantern, the chamber exploded, and Wyn was killed in the the fireball.
