Into the Past
When they were ready, the wizard cast the spell, and the heroes found themselves in a square room with doors on all four sides. The doors were all made of foot-thick solid rock with four insect heads that formed a square pattern at human head-and-chest level while there was another at floor level. While Magda figured out how to unlock a door, the party rested and healed their wounds.
Into the Darkness
When Finlay opened the door, he discovered a bridge over a pit leading to a door on the other side. He crossed the bridge carefully, noting at the last moment a pressure plate at the lip on the other side. Gideon followed and attempted to open the door, but it was stuck.
Chesley followed the others across the bridge and heard something in the darkness below. Lylou cast Knock on the door in front of Finlay and Gideon, which parted, and then crossed the bridge to join them. As she did so, the mage noticed a door on the side wall of the part as well.
Magda had crossed to join Chesley when a mass of mouths and pseudopods melted through the floor of the bridge and attacked her. Chesley cast Sanctuary on Magda. The monster confused Gideon, who went through the door and found a room with a pit, three halflings, and an insectoid.
Lylou cast Magic Missile and destroyed the thing. She noted that the doorway across the pit was at the same level as the doors on either edge of the bridge. She figured out that the plates in the floor rotated the bridge, and when pressed, it rotated to face the new door.
The Lure and the Trap
Beyond the new doorway was a vast, high-ceilinged room with several columns, each of which was festooned with gemstones. When Finlay and Gideon snuck into the room, several Giant Wasps came down from the ceiling and flew about among the columns.
Finlay and Gideon applied Fly Butter to themselves. Chesley cast Bless on Lylou, who cast sleep, which caused four of the six wasps to fall to the ground. Finlay ate some Fly Butter and climbed halfway up one of the columns to pluck out its gems. From that vantage, he saw the Giant Wasp nest on the ceiling.
