5 July 1939
The team was directed to the father. The monks would not go near him. They found him in a cell at the end of a darkened hallway in the catacombs below the monastery.
The Father had an unnerving air of calm and confidence. He proposed that the resistance cause a diversion to draw the Germans out of the castle, while he led the team through the ghoul tunnels to the castle. However, had added that the team must protect him from the ghouls because they did not like him anymore. He claimed it was because he used their tunnels without their permission to enter the castle the second time.
The team was suspicious of the Father, but there was nothing compelling to make them not trust him. They debated helping the Father.
The ghouls had also offered to lead the team to the castle already, so they don’t need the priest.
How did one anger the ghouls?
It sounded like the Father wanted the team as cannon fodder against the ghouls.
If the ghoul could telepathically communicate with Chance, what would have prevented them from taking over someone else’s mind and gunning down the team.
Chance drew his pistol at the Father
Zajic pointed his pistol at Chance.
Killer attempted to shoot the Father, but his gun jammed.
Thomas saw through the Father’s attempt to conceal the book and called him on it.
The Father disappeared.
They heard the sounds of running and an impact down the hall. The followed the sounds and saw the Father entering a secret door.
Chance, Killer and Tomas pursued and immobilized him. Tomas wrestled the book away and handed it to Gus, who put it in his pocket.
They tied the Father’s wrists and ankles together and took him to his chamber to interrogate him.
The priest said that he needed the book to “bring down the wrath of god to consume the Germans.” He believed that only god could provide that power.
Chance determined that the Father had been driven insane by his desire to destroy the Germans, but he could not be brought with them to the castle.
Killer suggested giving the book to the ghouls in exchange for their aid. Chance stated that the book was valuable intelligence that headquarters needed.
Chance took Killer to speak with the Abbot about removing the Father from the monastery. The abbot said that they were only providing him refuge because their vows required them to provide sanctuary.
Chance said that the Father was a danger to the monastery and that it would be better for the resistance to take him somewhere and hide him.
The abbot agreed.
Chance also asked for flasks of holy water and blessed holy symbols.
They planned to return with the Father to the warehouse where the Resistance would look after him.
