The Harbor Master’s Office

0915 – Chance and Clara are in the Harbor Master’s conference room with the SS officer.  Chance failed to intimidate the officer, bluff him about being part of the ritual, or that he was conducting and surprise security check.

Chance cast Cloud Memory on Eisenberg to forget the orders to keep people off the submarine and his attempts at bluffing, but the spell was not successful

Ferret noticed sentries running toward the Harbor Master’s office and sailors taking cover.  Killer ensured that the MG34 was ready for use.  Clara drew a grenade and pushed Chance out of the way.

The SS officer was not intimidated.  He revealed the papers on the tabletop and Chance figured out that the Nazis were trying to deal with the Deep Ones.  Clara tries to intimidate the SS officer into getting his men to stand down, but the Nazi was not impressed.  Chance drew his pistol.  The officer exclaimed that it was clear that “Nachtwolfe could not accept that Black Sun’s mystical efforts were succeeding where the technological approach of Nachtwolfe has failed.”

Chance recognized that he thought they were with the Nachtwolfe and signaled Clara to put the grenade down and follow his lead.  Clara secured the grenade and drew her pistol. “Let’s see what this fool has to show us.”

The officer then instructed his men to shoulder their weapons and led the way to the submarine.  In the engineer’s quarters, there is an elaborate geometric pattern on the floor in red paint that is glowing green.

Chance identified that the gate is an significant mystical achievement that could be destroyed by altering the pattern.  The officer said that one just stepped on the pattern and was transported to the other side.  Chance and Clara argued about letting the officer try the gate.  Chance ordered her to stand down and he let the German go through the gate.  He immediately disappeared.

Gus suggested stealing the submarine.  While debating the options, they discovered documents revealing the plan to go back in time prior to the great flood that sank the Dogger Banks off the Belgian coast and reproduce the flood on the British forces at Dunkirk.  Ferret recommended that he and Gus commandeer the submarine while Killer, Clara and Chance go through to save Wotan.  Killer suggests destroying the gate, taking the submarine to England, and having the navy depth charge the area with the object to retrieve.  Gus suggests torpedoing it.

Ultimately, Chance defaces the pattern and it stops glowing.  They recognize that Wotan and others are probably trapped on the other side.  They then killed the sole sailor on board and rigged the submarine to blow up in 3 minutes.  Then they evacuated the boat, boarded their truck, and left the vicinity.

As they left the harbor area, the submarine exploded.  They sped down the road until stopped by checkpoint.  Chance browbeat the sentries.  Then the sped down the road and across the bridge at fill speed.
