Something’s Fishy
Having fled the attack of the giant ants, the party continued down a long, natural passage, ultimately arrving in a cavern where the air was very still. There were two exitss, but an oily stink rose from the one passageway. The wand indicated the other exit was the desired path.
Continuing down that passage, they were attacked by 5 scaled humanoids resembling a cross between frog and fish. They had huge staring eyes and webbed hands and feet.
While Finlay loaded his crossbow, Chesley cast a Command spell and caused two to run away. Lylou cast Magic Missile and struck the two closest. Magda missed with her attack. Gideon charged into the fray, but missed as well.
Finlay shot at one and missed. Chesley blessed Gideon, who stabbed one and killed one. Another clawed Gideon. Lylou cast Magic Missile and killed it. The Magda killed the last one. Chesley healed Magda. Continuing on, they came to a fork, and the wand was indecisive as to which way to go.
Idol Chatter
They picked a direction and another cavern. On one wall of the cavern, a 2′ tall idol of a squid faced dragon glared down from a natural ledge. The idol was exquisitely carved from an extremely dark green (almost black) stone and probably weighed 150 pounds. Finlay assessed that the idol might fetch 1,000 g.p., if he could find a buyer. However Lylou said that her Magic Chest was full. Finlay reluctantly left the idol where it was.
As they approached an exit at the opposite end of the cavern, Magda was attacked by a frog-shaped being with webbed feet, large eyes. and two suckers at the frontal and ventral areas of its body. She killed it and then another that was nearby.
Chesley Chastised
The passage led into another, vast cavern that was split down the center. The side that they entered was ten feet above teh opposite side. Lylou cast light, and Finlay spotted a black fluid creature that sprouted teeth, arms, heads, and eyes at random. The wand indicated an exit across the cavern on the lower side. Lylou headed toward some stairs leading down at one end, and the others followed.
Suddenly, the creature sprouted wings, flew up, and slammed into Chesley. Finlay coated his sword with the paralyzation poison and hit it twice, but there was no apparent effect. Chesley cast Protection from Evil on himself. Lylou cast Force of Forbidment, blocking the creature from following, but Magda and Finlay were on the opposite side of it.
Magda attacked, hitting it one. The creature flew at Chesley, who had moved down the stairs and was visible on the lower level, but was stopped by the Force of Forbidment. Protected by the magical shield, Gideon advanced and hit it decisively. Finlay reloaded and moved behind the Force of Forbidment. Lylou concentrated on the spell and moved down the steps. Chesley blessed Gideon.
Finlay shot his crossbow, but missed. Gideon stabbed it. Magda stabbed it. The creature tried to attack, but could not get through the Force of Forbidment. Chesley finally hit with his spear and the fluid creature disintegrated and disappeared.
